Ultherapy Q & A

What is Ultherapy®?

Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared noninvasive treatment for counteracting age-related skin sagging and wrinkles and the face, neck, and chest. Ultherapy uses microfocused ultrasound to heat the deeper layer of your skin, stimulating the production of collagen.

Collagen production in your skin slows down as you get older. Collagen loss causes your skin to lose its natural strength and elasticity, leading to lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Ultherapy may strengthen and lift your skin, restoring a more youthful look.

Ultherapy strengthens and lifts the same deep layers of the skin typically addressed during a face-lift.

Am I a candidate for Ultherapy?

The team at Limmer Dermatology conducts a comprehensive evaluation when you come in with concerns about the look of your skin. They may consider you a candidate for Ultherapy if you have mild skin sagging they can’t fix with other cosmetic therapies like fillers or laser treatments.

Ultherapy results are less dramatic than a face-lift, but it provides a good alternative for those who want to rejuvenate their appearance but aren’t ready for surgery.

What happens during Ultherapy?

The Limmer Dermatology staff performs your Ultherapy treatment at the office. While you relax in the procedure chair, your provider cleans your skin. Then, they place the ultrasound device on your skin, adjust the settings, and activate the ultrasound energy.

You may feel intermittent warming or tingling sensations during your Ultherapy. The team may apply a numbing cream to your skin before your treatment and may recommend over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Ultherapy treatment takes 60-90 minutes. Though you may have redness and swelling on the treated area, you can resume your usual activities after your Ultherapy.

When can I expect to see results from Ultherapy?

It takes time for your skin to rebuild collagen, and you may slowly see improvements in your appearance two to three months after your Ultherapy. Your skin may continue to lift and tighten over the next several months.

The team at Limmer Dermatology recommends you protect your skin from the sun to maintain your more youthful look. They may also recommend touch-up treatments to help your fight against the visible signs of aging.
